The name derives from the local dialect "faggeto" referring to the great numbers of beeches in the lovely forested park at the top. This mountain with its 1400 meters is the highest part of the Monti Lattari chain (the Milky Mountains). It is mostly composed of limestone rocks, and has steep walls directly ending into the sea of the bay of Naples and Salerno. It is worth doing an excursion especially on a clear day, there are really good views from Mount Faito, the views back to Vesuvius, across the Monti Lattari massif and south over to the Bay of Salerno are magnificent. This is an excellent choice when it is blisteringly hot down at the coast, an ancient network of tracks, under a lot of tree cover, offers lovely cool walks. For this and many other reasons it is possible to walk or cycle all year.
